Was the Velociraptor in 'Jurassic Park' the same as Deinonychus?

Yes. For some reason both the book and the film chose to picture the small Late Cretaceous predatory Velociraptor (1.8 metres long and 1 metre high) as a larger animal, approximately the size of the Early Cretaceous predator Deinonychus. It has been claimed that they belong to the same genus, but not been scientifically proved. The animals are found in different parts of the world, lived several million years apart and are consistently different in size so it is unlikely they are the same.
